How Abbotsleigh uses it
Abbotsleigh uses both the ClickView library and their own custom library to supplement lectures and activities. Teachers are doing things like embedding videos in homework assignments so students can replay the videos on their own time to reinforce the learning. They’re finding that the kids are also actively researching and watching related videos on their own, which gives them a deeper understanding of subjects and gets them genuinely excited about the things they’re studying.

Building and adding to their individual library is pretty easy, too. Abbotsleigh starts with the raw content – like a tape from a class lecture – then edits and trims it, tags it with keywords, and uploads it to their local library using the ClickView tool. They usually set it up to stream chapter-by-chapter to keep the video streaming rates down, but it can be set it up any way a school wants.

How ClickView makes money
ClickView is making money in a couple of ways: through subscriptions to their library, managing and hosting individual school libraries, and by selling tools and accessories that help schools build their libraries. This is especially nice because the subscription fees give them a fairly steady revenue stream on top of their software and tools sales.

This kind of video streaming solution offers a lot of flexibility and can be used across a variety of industries. ClickView is a comparatively small partner with expertise in the education market. They don’t need vast resources like the “big guys” to build this solution: they just needed Silverlight on an ASP.NET web services platform with Visual Basic and Expression. In so doing, Microsoft’s products let them focus on their expertise and core business of delivering video teaching tools for the education market.
